Bucs Defeat Firestorm in Tight Battle

GLENDALE, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert men's soccer team (6-4-3, 5-1-2) defeated the Arizona Christian University Firestorm (8-3-2, 5-2-1) on the road by a score of 1-0, Saturday night at the ACU Soccer Field in Glendale, Ariz.

The Buccaneers remain undefeated in the month of October, extending their winning streak to four games. This was the program's first-ever win against ACU, in nine total meetings. Park-Gilbert and Embry-Riddle are now in a tie for second place in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference standings, each with a 5-1-2 record and 17 GSAC points.

The lone score of this contest came early in the second half, as sophomore forward Linus Vilhelmsson netted his first goal of the season in the 55th minute. Senior midfielder Ryan Masterson assisted on the play.

Bucs goalkeeper, senior Zac Stephenson, picked up his fourth win in five starts this year. Stephenson saved ACU's seven shots on goal.

Park-Gilbert took 13 shots (six shots on goal) to the Firestorm's 11. Both teams combined for nine corner kicks, sixteen fouls, and two yellow cards.

The Park-Gilbert men's soccer team returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. MST, when they host the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks (5-4-4, 2-3-3) on Field 4 at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
