Bucs Rally Late to Defeat La Sierra

MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert men's soccer team (3-4-3, 2-1-2) defeated the La Sierra University Golden Eagles (5-3-1, 3-3) by a score of 3-2, Saturday night at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.

After going 0-1-2 in their last three games, the Buccaneers found their form in this second-half thriller. Park-Gilbert now moves to .500 all-time against La Sierra, posting a 2-2-2 lifetime record in regular-season meetings.

Bucs senior forward Havard Brynie put the first goal on the board in the 18th minute, courtesy of a pass from sophomore defenseman Mamadou Seck. That was the lone score of the first half, as Park-Gilbert outshot LSU 7-4 in the first 45 minutes of play.

From the 70th minute to the 75th minute, the Golden Eagles came alive and snatched momentum. Johnathan Arriaga found the back of the net in the 71st minute, rebounding a missed penalty kick from Vinicius Goncalves. An own goal by the Bucs in the 75th minute led to a 2-1 La Sierra lead in the game's final 15 minutes.

Seck then scored his first goal of the year in the 76th minute, tying the match at two. Seven minutes later, sophomore forward Caden Dossman netted the game-winning goal off an assist from senior midfielder Ryan Masterson.

In net for the Bucs on Saturday night was senior Zac Stephenson. Stephenson, the former winner of GSAC Defender of the Week last year, picked up his first win of the 2025 season with five saves.

Park-Gilbert totaled 16 shots to La Sierra's eight.

The Buccaneers return to action this Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. MST, when they host The Master's University Mustangs (4-4-1, 3-2) at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
