Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB Celebrates its Seniors

The Park University Gilbert women's basketball team lost to the top team in the conference Hope International University 78-65 this evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.

The loss spoiled senior night for six buccaneers who will be saying farewell to the program at the end of the season. Michee Corbin, Yuli Garcia, Larken Hoar, Hemani Kalia, Alynna Palacios and Haley Valencia all were celebrated before the game and only Palacios was unable to play in the game due to injury.

The Bucs came out strong shooting 47 percent from the floor in the first quarter, but the Royals matched them basket for basket. The Bucs pressed throughout the quarter forcing six turnovers which they turned into eight points.  The Bucs only trailed by three after the first frame.

Both teams struggled shooting in the second quarter and after combining for 47 points in the first quarter, the two teams posted a combined 32 points in the second as the Royals extended its lead to seven at the half.

Hope put the game out of reach in the third quarter outscoring the Park 20-12 in the frame. The Buccaneers only made four field goals from the floor.

The Bucs won the fourth quarter 17-15 but it was not enough to overcome the 15-point deficit.

The Buccaneers played all 18 players on their bench in this game and the scoring was spread up and down the bench. Freshman Symirah Gray led the team with nine points, while seniors Hoar and Kalia both had eight points. Hoar led the team with six rebounds.

The Buccaneers season concludes on Saturday, February 21 as they host The Master's University at 12 p.m. at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
